From Baseball to Business: Dale Murphy on His Role at Georgia Oak

In this exclusive interview, we sat down with Atlanta Braves legend Dale Murphy and Georgia Oak Managing Partner Mike Lonergan to chat about Dale's new role as Managing Director.

Video Transcript

Mike Lonergan: Georgia Oak's model is all about doing things the right way. High integrity, trust, we want to be the steward of an owner's business in that next chapter, and we wanna do things the right way. And there's no one I could think of more than Murph that has taught us how to do something the right way.

Dale: As Managing Director with Georgia Oak, I'm just really excited to get to know number one, the portfolio companies, establish relationships there, and share with them what I've learned from my professional baseball career, which directly relates to what they're going through in business, how to stay resilient, how to focus on the fundamentals, how to work together as a team. I just, hopefully I'll bring a, maybe a different perspective, but it'll still resonate with them and help them, you know, continue to succeed.

Mike: Murph joining the team brings yet another tool to our toolkit to take these businesses to the next level. He's gonna work with our companies, their management teams, on organizational development, personal excellence, leadership, and that's, at the end of the day, how you get success is you get people rowing in the right direction that believe in a common cause. And, you know, Murph's a guy that, you know, he spent his entire career, with that crystallized view of what to do and how to do it.

Dale: That's something I've always thought about as a baseball player when I made, you know, home run records and all those kind of things are really nice, but ultimately it's your legacy, how you did things. How you want to be remembered is the most important thing. Not how many All-Star teams you made, or how many home runs you hit, or how many Most Valuable Player awards you won, you know, in life and business and sports, it's really, to me, what's really important is your legacy.
